VERNON TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL BAND DAVID MATEYKA, DIRECTOR Program Note Who doesn’t enjoy driving down a highway at sunset? Commissioned by David Mateyka and the Mt. Vernon Township High School Band, this work aims to capture the feelings and emotions of driving. Many of the sounds heard in the audio track come from recordings that the students made specifically for this collaboration. May listening to this composition remind us to stop focusing on destinations; rather let’s slow down our busy lives and enjoy the moments we have together with friends and family. Let’s enjoy the journey today on this “sunset highway” of life! |
