Consortium Director - Jim Mobley
A music educator with more than 30 years of experience teaching middle school and high school bands in the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District (MI), Jim Mobley proudly inspires students to see the best in others and become the best version of themselves. His ensembles at Brownstown Middle School and Woodhaven High School have received accolades at a variety of performances at the local, state and national level. Their travels have taken them throughout the United States and Canada. At home, they have welcomed the likes of Maynard Ferguson, the US Army’s Downrange, and The Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Jim is Founder of the New Band Electro Acoustic Music Consortium, which promotes the creation of new EA works for young ensembles. He presents clinics in the areas of cajon and drum set technique, music technology and music assessment, and ensemble performance. He authored the BOXbeats cajon method book. He served as a Leadership Fellow of the Michigan Arts Education Instruction and Assessment project, a cajon clinician for Malmark, and is a Vic Firth Education Team Member. He has been married for over 30 years to his wonderful wife and fellow music educator, Kimberly Coulson-Mobley. Together they have one son, an inspiring automotive sports photographer, and an incredible rescue dog. In his spare time, Jim performs with Ann Arbor area jazz ensembles, his church worship team, and with local musical theater productions. On weekends you will find him in his backyard, or on the road, cooking up some amazing barbeque!
