Into the Mist is the first work I wrote for young band and was commissioned by a consortium led by Jim Childers (band director in Illinois where my wife went to school and played flute). The mood of the work is adventurous and cinematic, using the opening statement of the melodic fifth as the basis for the harmonic and melodic material throughout.
